“Inspiration usually comes during work, rather than before it.”

-Madeleine L’Engle

Our window into the heart of the Earth suit looks at the basis of all material creation: work.

We take the raw materials we need and fashion them into the new. Even when we work ‘just for a paycheck’ we are transforming the action of our labor into the material reality of currency.

Community interaction and group projects are strongly indicated by this card. There is a need to make or craft something tangible, a very practical get-your-hands-dirty feel. In the Three of Disks we realize that it’s not only that work has to be done, but that the doing is satisfying for its own sake.

This card advises us that creative inspiration to do better work happens in the doing. If we’re not sure how to start, we should start anyway. Even the most fumbling beginning will give us a clearer sense of how to proceed.

Meditations/ Questions for a Three of Disks Day

What is the most satisfying aspect of your job? What is the least?

Is there a hobby you enjoy so much you wish it could be a career? What about the doing makes you love it?

When have you felt your labor and craftmanship were properly appreciated?

“Any activity becomes creative when the doer cares about doing it right, or better” -John Updike
