FOUR

Celebration
Ceremony
Accomplishment
Music
Dance
Formal occassions
-Kamand Kojouri
“This is a day of celebration!
Today, we are divorcing the past
and marrying the present.
Dance,
and you will find God
in every room.
Today, we are divorcing resentment
and marrying forgiveness.
Sing,
and God will find you
in every tune…”
This is sometimes referred to as the “wedding card” which makes sense when you think of fiery passion for sexual union being contained within a solid and regulated institution. That sounds a little dull for the suit of Wands- “wedding” and “marriage” are two different words for a reason.
Like the Three of Cups, the Four of Wands is a card of celebration and dance, but in this case the celebration serves a defining and directive purpose. A graduation, a book launch, a wedding, a retirement party: the shindig acknowledges an achievement and brings community together to launch us toward the next goal. The Wands fire has been built and nurtured to serve our needs, we can pause to dance around that fire, but it will still need tending as we head toward bigger goals.
The open-air bower traditionally depicted on this card is open because this energy and optimism of the suit need room to breathe and grow.
This card can be a call to put together a celebration for someone close to us who has accomplished something.
It can also be a prompt to bring more music and dance into our lives, and to share these joys with our community.

Meditations/ Questions for a Four of Wands Day
When in your life have you achieved something that you thought absolutely demanded a party to commemorate it?
What is the most moving formal ceremony you have ever attended?
When was the last time you danced with others?
Sharing in each others’ joys and accomplishments is part of the glue that keeps a community together.
