“Fantasy and daydreams are like internet. They enrich your life but if you’re using them as an escape from painful ‘reality’, they can suck you into a dark spiral path.”

-Shunya

The suit of our emotional lives pauses to indulge in daydreams of the future. The figure knows not all, or maybe any, of these visions will become reality. But daydreaming need not be a futile pastime.

There is an opportunity to examine what beyond-our-wildest or win-the-lottery dreams entail, and why. Often our dreams are about proving others wrong or attaining power over others. We’re in the suit of Cups now, so those motivations have no place.

Which of our many reveries is pleasant because it fills us with a true sense of joy? If that cup isn’t full in our life right now, what could we do to make it fuller?

This isn’t time for a Wands-style drive for the brass ring. It’s time to check in with the heart to figure out which goal is worth pursuing. See the power-grabbing and self-righteous fantasies for what they are. Your soul has deeper needs to meet. When you align your heart with those needs it can begin to feel like the universe is helping.

Meditations/ Questions for a Seven of Cups Day

In which area of your life would you most like fulfilment and success?

Is there any dream you hesitate to pursue because you are afraid how others will judge you?

Do you have trouble making decisions or staying committed to them?

Is your life in a kind of holding pattern? Can you think of a way out? Do you want out?

We can’t daydream all the time, but we do need to give ourselves some pie-in-the-sky inspiration.
