“My dear, In the midst of hate, I found there was, within me, an invincible love. In the midst of tears, I found there was, within me, an invincible smile. In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible calm. In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.”

-Albert Camus

Key 19 is a time of glorious liberation and clarity. We feel filled with energy and light. The two childlike figures usually portrayed on this card hold hands in an idyllic protected garden. The illumination and acceptance of our entire self has released tremendous energy- we have been freed from illusion and anxiety.

The Eden in which we find ourselves always existed but we were unable to recognize it as paradise before. The task is to integrate this joyous light into our own psyche, to hold Eden within ourselves no matter what outward reality we travel.

Much of the joy of this card comes from a liberation from falsehood and false selves. Announcing ourselves to the world as our authentic selves- free from pretention, fear, or “masks”- brings a calm radiance.

This card speaks not only of joy but of triumph- of braving our way through a passage of inner turmoil and doubt to come into the light more wholly and contentedly ourselves . A Sun-like personality has made peace with itself and radiates that peace to those around them. The Sun, in its openness and joy, is closely linked to the creative impulse. As Sallie Nichols states in Jung and Tarot: An Archetypal Journey, “We come upon this secret garden, not through sterile intellectualism, but through imaginative play.” This creativity is ready to be expressed publicly.

Key 19 calls on us to turn our inner illumination into outward radiance.

Advice:

Get yourself out there!

Share your light with those who need it.

Respond authentically.

Warning:

Don’t sell yourself short.

Don’t let others disquiet infect your calm.

What activity puts you into a mindset of creative fun with no attachment to a particular outcome?

Do you feel like you deserve to be seen and heard?

No season of bliss lasts forever, but we can try to carry the light within us through darker times.
